Simon served in HMS Fearless, HMS Apollo and HMS Birmingham with deployments to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, United States, and the Falklands and taught at the International Officers Training School at HMS Raleigh.
As a highly experienced coach and mentor to lawyers, Simon draws on 5 years’ leadership experience as a Royal Navy Officer, 22 years’ ‘coalface’ experience as a private practice lawyer with an international law firm and 16 years coaching, mentoring and training lawyers in the UK and Europe on all aspects of their roles. Specific training has included business development, networking, presentational skills, coaching, financial acumen, team building and leadership. Simon has an Advanced Diploma in Executive Coaching from the highly regarded Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring.
Simon’s clients include Senior Partners of international law firms, Heads of Legal of Accountancy and Insurance businesses, partners, senior lawyers and senior support managers, in the UK and Europe. Simon sees his role as helping professionals to flourish as practitioners and leaders in their workplace, and cope with the challenges and stress of operating in today’s highly competitive legal industry. He has coached over 200 lawyers to partner status and further promotion within their firms as well as assisting senior professionals at all levels with key career decisions. Simon practised for 22 years with CMS Cameron McKenna and, as a Partner, Practice Group Manager, Board Member and Office Managing Partner, he was involved in all aspects of managing a professional practice: recruiting, training and development of fee earning and support staff, the assessment and promotion of senior lawyers to partners, firm-wide strategy, practice development and financial management. As a practising partner, Simon specialised in banking and insurance, securing panel appointments with major clearing banks and leading professional indemnity insurers and being regularly ranked as tier 1 in Chambers.
Simon’s interests are predominantly sporting having played rugby for his university, the Royal Navy and Saracens. Current pastimes include running, cycling, sailing, tennis, local politics, conservation, maintaining a small holding and cider. He lives with wife Lesley and children, Helen and Patrick, in Somerset.
